I am just about done with the Glencroft dollhouse. I have yet to put the yard together, but before I do that I have to paint each picket & gate. As I wrote this, I realize it will be much easier to build it, then spray paint. Ahaaa!
I also want to make white bricks for the sowuthwest corner of the house, going up the chimney. Anyway, I've made every single piece for the house & im going to share how I made the curtains for the living room.

I found the material at Dollar Tree & just knew I would use it somewhere! I'm into the blue hues again :) I used a piece of it over the back of the sectional I made, and I made two couch throw pillows out of it, so I decided to use it for the curtains as well.
First I measured the window, which has a seat, so I had to decide if I wanted them all the way down to below the window, or just above. I decided I would have them stop just below the sill. I wanted to break up the color & pattern so I put a white panel in between the two. I made that piece bigger than each blue & white panel.
I originally wanted to have tie backs, but let's be honest, miniatures are somewhat difficult to handle. I also wanted to use grommets, but didn't want to put in the time, & wasn't sure how they would turn out. This being my first house, I've learned a LOT, so with my next one, I will try a lot more things & also save time.
I decided to pleat them, but didn't want them completely flat. I cut each piece & used iron bond instead of sewing them all around. I folded each edge over just enough (I took that into account before cutting) & ironed it so it would be easier to work with when laying the iron bond down. I ironed each edge for just a second, then laid the bond down & ironed each for 10 seconds. Voila!! Hemmed edges!
Now, to create the pleats I used 2 craft sticks on top of each other and folded the material over it and ironed. Then flipped it & did the same. I repeated the process until I got to the end of the panel. I didn't take into account that I wasn't using grommets & didn't want to just glue or Velcro the top part to the rod, so when I was done, I used my exacto knife to cut a slit and pushed the rod through, past the bond. I did the same for all 3 panels. I used a round dowel as the rod & glued a bead at each end to look like a decorative rod end.
I was actually more pleased with them more than I thought I would be :)

Hopefully in the future, I can use the sewing machine & do more. I'm more a hammer & mail girl, but I know I can familiarize myself with a machine. I did end up sewing the top part (by hand). When I finished the pleats, I just folded over enough & pinned them where they needed to be & hand sewed them before putting them on the rod.
Thanks for reading! Hope you like the curtains :)
